Hello hello! We’ve been staying busy, and here are a few things that we’ve been up to: Got a new car (last photo). David’s truck was past the point of saving so we bit the bullet and went to Carmax and came home with a 2014 Mazda5. He is letting me drive it, so I’m trying not to think about the car payment and just enjoying having a new car. I do really love it, even if it is approaching minivan territory. Started weekly Financial Peace University classes (Dave Ramsey). Bad timing to take on new debt but since there was no other option we are just focusing on making progress from here on out! My work is still…

hormones & self-care

September 22, 2015

Last week was not a good one. I have many stressors in my life right now: not sleeping well, Meredith having anxiety, Liam teething, finances in bad shape, work unpredictable, not to mention the general craziness of being a working mom to little kids. But last week I was not handling anything well. I forgot completely about self-care and let my grumpiness come out in full force each evening at home. By the end of it I was wondering if it was time for me to consider therapy. And then I realized: HORMONES. midweek lull

September 2, 2015

I have ringworm on my arm. (I won’t show you a picture.) I’ve been obsessing over it. I thought it was a mosquito bite, then a few days later I upgraded my assessment to spider bite, then finally after a week it formed a classic ringworm shape. It itches SO BAD you have no idea, unless you’ve had ringworm, and then you have an idea. It’s taking up way too much of my mental energy. It’s nice to not be commuting to the medical…

day trip

August 17, 2015

What a treat to see Megan, one of my best ever friends, on Saturday. Even better to meet her at the home of Becky and Dan, longtime family friends of ours, and to feel so welcomed despite the suddenness of our descent. And we do not arrive quietly. Megan lives in Nashville now, and I miss her dearly. So when I found out that she would be in Austin briefly (less than a 3-hour drive away) my plans were made. The kids and I hopped in the car – well, after two hours of packing and preparation, I don’t mean to make us sound so carefree – and we were there a little after nine. We spent the day chatting…

The first thing that comes to my mind as I sit down to write is: it’s hot. I hear talk around me of teachers and kids getting ready for school, and aren’t Christmas trees out in some of the stores? but here summer has just hit its stride. Also, our air conditioner is broken again. It seems to be something pretty major this time so we have gotten three different opinions, and now I think we must bite the bullet. I’ll be honest, I have shed some tears over this as it is a heavy financial burden and that’s something I’m anxious about anyway. But all we can do is all we can do and we will just try our…
