Over the weekend I met my friend Christie for a coffee + blogging date at Blacksmith in town. It was such a treat for me to do something like that – two hours of leisurely chatting, sipping lattes, & writing in a new-to-me coffee shop with no kids! We decided to try and make it a monthly routine so I’m pumped about that.

I wasn’t planning on taking outfit photos, but Christie offered and I decided that even though I was wearing jeans and a t-shirt it was pretty representative of my style in general. My husband made so much fun of me for using the word “momiform” but…that’s kinda what this is. :)

I actually love everything about this outfit except the jeans, which are old (I’m talking pre-kids) and really need to be upgraded to a higher-waisted version. The rest are the simple, quality type pieces that I can wear over and over, mix and match, and that suit me. I could have easily accessorized to take it up a notch but I didn’t because, well, I’m kinda lazy about fashion.

    What’s your favorite weekend uniform?

    shirt: Everlane
    jeans: Mossimo (from Target, old)
    shoes: Birkenstock
    bag: Madewell

  • what we wore : a day at the park

a day in the park a day in the park a day in the park

It finally got warm and sunny here after what seemed like months of dreary gray and rain. Meredith needed a little personal attention from mommy, so we had a girls’ day with a friend of mine. A little shopping, visiting my brother, and then walking around one of the nice big parks in town. Very fun.

And hey, this is my first attempt at some outfit photos! Over the past year I’ve developed a pretty strong sense of my personal style so I thought it’d be fun to share. Unfortunately we were out and about in the middle of the day so the lighting here is pretty harsh, but you get the idea right?

Meredith’s wardrobe is almost all hand-me-downs from friends, and she wears pink or purple 90% of the time, so this outfit is a rare departure. (And actually she was wearing a Little Mermaid t-shirt earlier in the day before she spilled mustard on it at lunch.) I try to let her choose her own clothes, so you’ll probably see some interesting combinations in the future. :)

Oh! P.S. My goal is to transition to clothes produced ethically, but I’m on a tight budget so in all honestly I hardly ever go shopping. Right now it’s better for me to wear what I have. But if you have a clothing company to recommend, I’d love that!

    On me:
    shirt: Gap (similar)
    cardigan: Ross
    jeans: Old Navy
sunglasses: Target (super cheap right now)
    bracelet: Noonday Collection
    sandals: Target
    bag: Madewell

    On Meredith:
    shirt: Baby Gap
    skirt: J Khaki
    shoes: Crocs (similar)

  • what i wore this weekend // sunglasses edition

I’ve been meaning to do another outfit post for awhile. The problem is taking the photos, because I don’t have a tripod and my husband is, shall we say, less invested in getting a good picture than I am. However he IS a good sport, so I hope to keep these coming every now and then.

    sunglasses outfit

shirt: Old Navy // pants: Banana Republic (old) // shoes: Teva // belt: old, who knows? // sunglasses: c/o Firmoo // necklace: heirloom from my grandmother

I wore this to church and all day Sunday. It was gorgeous and warm outside and I wanted to be comfortable but not overly casual. These t-shirts from Old Navy are one of my favorite things ever. I have them in several colors and wear them all the time. I plan on buying many more because they are so comfortable, fit well, and so far have held up to lots of washing. You can wear them on their own or use for layering. These pants are also one of my favorites because they are such a flattering fit and I feel light and happy when I wear them. The sandals are my go-to’s, are super comfortable and supportive, and I’m a fan of mixing casual with dressy so I decided they worked.

Now let’s talk about these sunglasses. I wore them a LOT over the weekend because I came down with some kind of eye infection. I am not sure if it is a type of pinkeye or not, but I had a ton of crust gluing my eyes shut in the morning, redness, itchiness, and pain. I decided to forgo mascara and just wore these indoors for half the time when I was in public.

Lately I have had a really hard time finding sunglasses that fit my head. My old ones were falling off (I think they got bent so they were too big) and my new ones hurt my head after awhile. Firmoo, an online optical store, let me choose a pair to try out and I picked these, which are actually tinted regular glasses with no prescription. They fit great and I’m a fan. A few things about the company if you’re interested in trying it out: they have a cool “virtual try-on” feature where you upload a photo, they’re super affordable because the glasses aren’t branded, and you can get your first pair free.

Anyway! I’m back at work now even though my eyes look a little scary. I’m planning to visit ye olde employee health clinic at some point today to get some drops or ointment without having to miss work for something so small. Have a great week, you.

  • what i wore // leggings & tights

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of No nonsense. All opinions are 100% mine. No nonsense tights and leggings can be found at food and drug stores as well as mass retail stores.

Even though I live in southeast Texas, for some strange reason I have more sweaters in my closet than anything else. I get way more excited about fall fashion than any other season, so I didn’t hesitate to sign up for this opportunity to try out a pair of No nonsense leggings and tights. I may have sweaters in abundance, but I don’t have much in the way of dresses, skirts, or pants (other than jeans) that are cool-weather appropriate, and leggings and tights can extend the life of warm weather clothes.

I didn’t get to choose the color of items, and I guess I was expecting black, but what I got was denim leggings. Jeggings? No, I can’t use that word. But anyway, these aren’t the kind that you can wear just like jeans, they’re the kind that need to be covered around the bum area, if you know what I mean.

shirt: H&M // sweater: Target // leggings: No nonsense // shoes: Blowfish // necklace: A Cup of Green Ginger (Etsy – similar here) // belt: Target // bag: Fossil

I wore this outfit to a family reunion and it was perfect. For most of the time I had the sweater off, but a storm blew through with a cool breeze so I did get to wear it some.

For fun I decided to put Meredith in her denim leggings too. She didn’t get that we were supposed to be posing though.

    On Meredith:

shirt: babyGap // leggings: Target // shoes: StrideRite

A perfect fall outfit that I will be wearing again.

Like I said earlier, I didn’t get to choose the colors I received which is how I ended up with red tights. I am racking my brain right now to see if I can think of a single other red clothing item I own, and I can’t do it. Red is just not my color. However! Christmas is near, and red is a Christmas color. Red also goes well with gray and black, two colors I have plenty of. And thus I put together a winter outfit that I never would have worn without the tights because of the dreariness factor.

dress: Banana Republic // sweater: Banana Republic // tights: No nonsense // belt: Target // boots: Nine West

I only got one good picture of this outfit because it was way too hot to actually wear it anywhere right now. I just hope it gets cold enough around Christmas time to wear this.

I really recommend the No nonsense leggings & tights. They felt really soft and well made, the sizing chart was right on (for me), and the leggings held up well all day. Even better is that you can get them at drugstores and grocery stores and they’re super affordable. I’m pretty sure I’ll be buying some more colors.

  • what i wore this weekend

I’m not a trendy person and I’m on a severe budget when it comes to many things, including clothes. I wear scrubs all week long so it’s hard for me to spend money on them. BUT because of that, I do like to (try to) put a little more effort into my appearance on the weekend. I’m 30 years old now; it’s time for me to develop some sort of personal style. I’m hoping by photographing my outfits I’ll be able to refine it.

Saturdays I usually do chores around the house and then go on some form of excursion whether it’s boring errands, shopping for fun or just to get out of the house, brunch with a friend, or dinner with family.

This is what I wore for lunch with my mom and shopping for fun.

It was still hot, but the weather cooled off significantly enough that I was able to wear a cardigan. My shoes are not pictured because I was wearing for comfort and they don’t really match the outfit. I’m definitely in the market for some more sandals. Another thing that I’m noticing from looking at this picture is that my white legs are not super attractive, but it’s Houston so I can’t really get away with never wearing shorts or short skirts.

cardigan: J.Crew // tank: Target // skirt: Old Navy // necklace: H&M (old)

    This is what Meredith wore.

When we go out I have a thing about dressing her like a little adult. I don’t know why, but I can’t bring myself to put her in onesies or rompers anymore. It doesn’t make sense because in most other areas I baby her. She’s wearing disposables here because our diaper sprayer broke and we haven’t fixed it yet (and I can’t face washing cloth diapers without it). These adorable shorts would probably be too small otherwise.

shirt: Old Navy // shorts: Sketchers // shoes: Pediped

Necklace also doubles as a baby snack.
