  • Checking In

My friend Lauren from school called me today and was all, “Are you freaking out about the NCLEX yet? How much have you studied? How are you studying? When do you start work? What is our first week going to be like? Did you realized NCLEX is less than two weeks away?!?” Um, I wasn’t freaking out until I talked to her. OH MY GOSH NCLEX IS LESS THAN TWO WEEKS AWAY. AND I START MY JOB ON MONDAY, MONDAY AS IN FOUR DAYS FROM TODAY. So excuse me while I go hide myself away with some Quakes rice snacks, my dog, and my review book. Hopefully I shall emerge at some point this weekend for some air.

  • Purgatory

David: I’m going to go to purgatory.

    Me: No you’re not!

David: Yes I am, and it’s going to one giant poker game. But really if you win the game you go to hell, and I’ll try really hard to win but then I won’t because I stink, and then I’ll go to heaven!

    Me: …

David: What? You don’t believe me? Why not?

Me: Because the Bible doesn’t say anything about that.

David: It doesn’t say anything about purgatory being a giant poker game?

    Me: No.

David: Huh. I think we just interpret it differently.

  • talent show

My mom teaches 5th grade and my youngest brother Barry teaches theater, both at the same small charter school. On Friday night the school had a talent show and Barry asked me, my fiance David, and my brother David to be judges. This was SO much fun and I highly recommend it if you get the chance.

There were really only 5 or so acts out of 27 that were much good, but it was all so entertaining. We had some Hannah Montana, some High School Musical, a lot of sort-of dancing and sort-of singing to songs I’ve never heard going on. I had to be told MULTIPLE times that I was not allowed to give points based on cuteness.

But as you can see from the above not-posed-at-all picture, we deliberated very hard and took it very seriously. We came up with our own rating scale and were completely impartial, and at the end there were some clear winners, or so we thought. Apparently some people were surprised with our choices, but that’s the life of a judge. You have to deal with that kind of thing when you’re famous.

  • Another Last Day

Today was my last day at the part-time job that I have had throughout school. Although I am very excited to start my career as a nurse, I am sad to leave this office for many reasons. I have genuinely enjoyed getting to know the people there, and my bosses have been so accommodating to my weird schedule with school. Lately, this job has even paid my rent.

But the main reason I’m sad to leave is because David works there. It’s where we met (for all practical purposes), where we became friends, and even where he asked me out the first time. In the file room, actually. When our lives got busy over the course of our relationship, there were times we’d cling to the fact that at least we’d see each other at work. Soon we will be spending a lot more time together, but not seeing him here is still an adjustment.

For old times’ sake I tried to get David to re-enact and let me record the scene where he asked me out and I asked if I could think about it. He wasn’t up for that, and I have no idea why not. So instead, here is a picture of us in a place that holds many memories for us.

  • Today

I had a pretty busy/exciting day today. It started out with me going to Methodist to get “processed” for my new job. Basically I filled out a bunch of paperwork and got a physical. Although this in itself wasn’t exciting, the prospect of starting my new job in a week and a half is.

THEN, I picked up my wedding dress! It is now in my possession. It needs ALL kinds of alterations, but still! What I will be wearing the day I get married is hanging in my closet!

Next I came home and watched the finale of “Dancing with the Stars” that I recorded (yay Kristi!) while working on my computer.

After that I went and bought a couple pairs of scrubs, then stopped by the hospital to see my friend Sara who just gave birth to a lovely baby girl yesterday! I’m so proud because she’s just recently gotten into “Gilmore Girls,” I of course lent her all of the seasons that I have on DVD, and she named her daughter Rory! Such a sweet baby.

The visit was short, and so I headed over to help David’s mom with something, got a salad at Wendy’s, then went to my soccer game. I was beginning to have quite a headache at this point, and when I started playing it became much worse. But thank God for ibuprofen, because I gulped down four of them and by halftime I was almost as good as new. And we even won!

And now…I am exhausted. Good night.
