    More Project Life catch up!

    IMG_5060

This is from December 9 – 22, so basically the buildup to Christmas. I’m really glad I did the holiday minibook, because it allowed me to focus on the everyday stuff here and not be overly full of holiday stuff.

    IMG_5061

I did include a couple of holiday things that were also in the minibook. The completion of my niece’s stocking was a huge deal to me. I also put in a picture of Meredith at her Pappy’s nursing home Christmas party. The rest of this side is just extra fun stuff.

    IMG_5062

On the right side I started with my overview of the week with all the extra stuff that I didn’t have photos of. Then there are a couple pictures of my shopping trip with Dad and Meredith, some of her being adorable, and all the little baby boy clothes that we finally put away.

I always mean to include more quotes from Meredith, but then forget to. At least I have my “Meredith lately” blog series to refer to. :)

  • project life 2013 : weeks 48 – 49

I haven’t given up on Project Life! It’s still totally in effect, and I’ve finally started to work on catching up. Expect to see several updates on it over the next few weeks.

    IMG_5050

This spread is from the weeks of November 25 to December 8 which included Thanksgiving.

    IMG_5053

On the left side are all photos from Thanksgiving, a journaling card about the holiday, a movie ticket stub for a date night, and an iPhone screenshot of the weather when it finally got cold.

The right side had the rest of everyday life stuff. We decorated for Christmas, the Starbucks red cups came out, I went to an event with my mom, and Meredith came with me to a doctor’s appointment due to a power outage at her school. The only journaling I did on this side was a little about that day since it was out of the ordinary, and a week in review card for all the other stuff that happened.

I made this spread extremely quickly and it’s not a favorite but right now I really, really just want to get 2013 finished. I’m hoping to spend a bit more time on 2014’s spreads but the most important thing is just to do them!

  • holiday minibook complete!

Okay, after two days of emotional posts I need to focus on some lighthearted things for awhile. Let’s start with this, our finished holiday minibook! I know it’s almost Valentine’s Day but since nothing was getting done but the bare minimum until this baby was born, I’m pretty happy that I finished it while it’s still winter anyway.

For the base I purchased a mixed paper book from Petaline Prints (currently none are available but maybe she’ll have more next holiday season) which I loved and was perfect for what I intended. During the holidays I saved anything I thought I might want to add to the book, took lots of photos, and then after Christmas I printed them all and gathered together any extra paper, stickers, or supplies I thought I might want to use.

That pile sat around until last week when I spent just a few days putting it all together. I have never done a minibook before so this is kind of a trial run to figure out my style. I changed a lot of things around during the process as I decided what I did and didn’t like, and then tried to keep things somewhat consistent like the placement of photos and the way I did labels and journaling. I really enjoyed it and I am looking forward to doing this every year, although right now I don’t plan to make any additional minibooks other than for the holidays.

Below you’ll see the finished project, and a few notes on particular pages. If you have any questions about any of it let me know!

That drawing was made by an artist at the church we went to for Christmas Eve service. It’s supposed to be our family although it took me a long time before I realized he hadn’t given me someone else’s. :)

Inside the envelope are about 5-6 more Instax photos of Christmas Day. I didn’t want to overload the album with them, so I just pulled out the ones of our family to display.

Pretty simple overall, and very satisfying! Right now I’m in the middle of updating Liam’s baby book, then my next big maternity leave project will be catching up on Project Life. Yay crafting time.

  • project life 2013 : weeks 46 – 47

Everywhere lately I’m seeing Project Lifers post pictures of their 2014 title pages, and I wish I was at that point but I’m just not and that’s okay! Here is another spread for you of what I do have done.

    IMG_4560

This is from November 11 – 24. It includes an insert for a day in the life, and it appears I didn’t take a photo of the full spread without the insert. Oh well. :)

    IMG_4561

Really simple as usual. Mixing in cards from the seafoam and midnight core kits, photos with very little embellishing, and some extra journaling.

    IMG_4564

    IMG_4565

Here is the insert I did for day in the life. I posted these pics on Instagram so for the journaling I just included the time and my captions from that on plain white cardstock. I added a fabric tab and that’s that!

    IMG_4572

Since I am still caught up with editing and ordering photos I know it won’t be too hard to finish out this year’s album, and I am excited to start on the next. I am still finalizing what method I will use, but I don’t expect much to change unless it involves simplifying the whole thing even more. :)

It’s going to be a great week, okay? Okay!

  • project life 2013 : weeks 44 – 45

I’m about a month behind on Project Life right now but I’m just going to keep plugging along. My plan is to keep up with my photos and notes, work on it when I can, and then get caught up on maternity leave! I have two completed spreads to share in the next couple weeks and here’s the first one.

    IMG_4571

Above you’ll see the actual spread, encompassing the dates of October 28 to November 10. But actually there is an insert in between for the nine days of a photo a day project I made it through. :) Below is the spread with the insert.

    IMG_4568

    IMG_4567

I got really lazy about taking photos for awhile! Need to improve on that! The left side of this spread has a few shots from our local family outing, only one of Halloween (it was kind of a bummer this year with a cranky toddler) and one random photo of Meredith and me.

    IMG_4569

I threw in the overview of extra stuff on this little journaling card.

    IMG_4570

I was so low on photos, and David and I didn’t even take any together on our 5-year anniversary trip, so I decided to blow up a photo of the cottage we stayed in since that was the main part of the trip. To do this, I cropped the photo in Photoshop Elements into four 4×6 sections and had it printed through Snapfish. Then I trimmed the bottom two photos. Below that I added a summary of our trip plus one extra photo and story that happened.

    IMG_4566

This is one of those spreads that I am really not too pleased with, but still, the important thing is that it’s done! I am still thinking about how I want to approach this project in 2014. I am entertaining all ideas such as going back to weekly spreads, doing monthly spreads, disregarding dates altogether and just filling it in as things happen, not using the core kits, going to a smaller album, different page protectors, etc. In my darker moments I even think about giving up, but I know that that’s not a real option right now. These albums have become one of my favorite things. Most likely I’ll end up doing something similar to what I have been doing, but I’m waiting for inspiration to strike. :)

I’m going to take the next few days off the blog to survive Christmas and try to savor it, but I’ll be back at the end of the week and I hope you have a wonderful holiday!
