  • a whole bunch of things i’ve been into lately

Alright, get ready. Since the beginning of the year, I have been keeping a list of things I’m into: products, activities I’m enjoying, foods, etc. It’s already getting long so I figured I’d better share before it gets out of hand. This should be a fun post, I hope! Oh, and links below are affiliate or referral links, when available. :)

Agendio planner – First up is my new favorite planner. I could easily devote an entire post to this, but I know I won’t, so here you go. The Agendio is nearly endlessly customizable. I wanted a hybrid between a bullet journal and a planner, so that’s kind of what I created. Be prepared that if you’re interested, you could lose hours to this and suffer decision overload, but it’s worth it!

Trello – Part of the reason I was able to move away from a traditional bullet journal with all its collections of lists was that I started using Trello. It’s an easy, visual, and flexible way to store lists and a great way to manage projects. There is an app and a website that sync flawlessly, and it’s been extremely helpful.

Refrigerator oatmeal – I have been making six mason jars of this each weekend, and it serves as a perfect mid-morning snack that I really look forward to. Hopefully it’s helping my cholesterol go down, too!

Eyeliner – My makeup has always been minimal, as I like a natural look. Recently I saw a photo of a celebrity on a magazine and I loved how natural her makeup was. I studied it, and realized that she had a small amount of eyeliner on the outside half of her upper lids. I tried it, and it’s great! Easy, quick, and adds just enough to my eyes. So far my favorite is this one from Honest, which of course I can’t find available to purchase anywhere now, mostly because I love the smudger on the other end.

Diffusing essential oils – I knew I would love diffusing oils because I love scents, but I never had a good diffuser until I got one for my birthday. Now it’s so easy, and my whole family loves it too!

Felt needlepoint – I think this may be my favorite craft. I’ve made two stockings, an Advent calendar, and a birthday countdown banner. Now I’m making Jesus tree ornaments, and it’s SO FUN.

Moment app – Have you heard of this app for iPhone that tracks your screen time? I installed it awhile ago and have just been using it to observe for awhile. It’s really eye-opening. Eventually I’m going to use it to make some specific goals, but for now I just think it’s really cool.

Fixing up the house – I had a guest come stay in February, and that motivated me to get some things fixed up in the house. I replaced some of the outlets, put up curtains in two rooms, put up a new overhead light in the breakfast room, and got new bedding for the guest room. I want to do more of this!

Apartment Therapy spring cleaning challenge – Along the same lines, I have been getting weirdly excited about spring cleaning due to a 10-day email challenge I signed up for. I have not been executing the challenges yet, but they have really great ideas so I’ve been writing them down. My plan is to tackle one project per weekend. Maybe I’ll finish by the end of the summer. :)

Bookly app – I love goals and measurements, so when I discovered Bookly I was all about it. You add a book, and then time yourself when you read it with the app. It’s so interesting to see how long it actually takes me to read different things. You can also set a reading goal for yourself in minutes, which I think I might do! It has lots of other features too, but so far these are my favorite parts.

Cloth hair ties – My hair is long enough now that I like to braid it, and I am always into ponytails. I finally got myself a package of these hair ties, and I feel like it elevates that look just a little. Plus, they are stretchy and easy on my hair.

Dresses at Loft – I went shopping for an Easter dress, and I looked in so many places, only to be disappointed. But then when I went into Loft, the clouds parted and the sun appeared. I loved everything! I was looking for a more modest dress with sleeves, and I found some great options. (For the record, I chose this one, but in a slightly different color palette.)

Tommy Hilfiger t-shirts from Costco – I bought this $10 t-shirt in white on a whim, and it’s turned out to be what I want to wear every day. I sized up (got a large) and it hangs just right. And it’s not see-through! And it holds up to washing! I think I may buy a few more.

Whew, that’s it for now! Hope you’ve enjoyed, and tell me what you’re loving lately!

  • grove collaborative love & a free mrs. meyers cleaning kit!

Hi friends! I’m hoping to pop in later this week with an update on what I’ve been doing while I haven’t been blogging (spoiler: it includes a lot of rain and a lot of reading), but today I wanted to share something I have been loving over the past year because there is an awesome deal this week.

If you haven’t heard of Grove Collaborative (formerly ePantry) you need to get over there right now and check it out. Basically, they provide all-natural, non-toxic household, cleaning, & personal care supplies cheaper than pretty much anywhere. And this week they have put together this Mrs. Meyer’s Everyday Luxury Set which you can get for FREE.

Mrs. Meyers is one of my favorite brands because the scents are amazing, it’s toxin-free, and of course I love the packaging so I actually want to leave it out on my counter. If you’re new to Grove, you can get a candle, hand and dish soap, plus a walnut scrubber for FREE (and free shipping!) when you place your first order of $20. I highly recommend looking around on their website to see all that they offer. And they are constantly adding more items!

If you’re already a customer, there’s something for you too! When you use this link, you’ll get a free Mrs. Meyer’s hand soap with your next order. Woohoo!

There are a limited number of sets available and this offer ends Sunday May 1, so grab yours now. Here’s how:

    1. Sign up for Grove Collaborative here. You’ll receive the Mrs. Meyer’s Everyday Luxury Set for free when you sign up!

    2. Answer 4 quick questions about your home. Grove Collaborative will use this to customize your first basket (this takes under 30 seconds!).

    3. Once you’ve answered the questions, you can finalize your basket of products to suit your household needs by adding or removing items.

    4. To receive this offer, your order needs to total at least $20. Choose the combination of products and scents you love and receive in your first box (this is the hardest part — so many great choices!).

    5. Click “Finish & Pay” and place your order.

By the way, Grove has some of the absolute best customer service around. I love it so much that I even joined their VIP program, with which I get free gifts once a quarter plus discounts. Totally worth it. And if you need any product recommendations, I’m your girl!

Have an awesome week. I’ll be sharing more soon, but in the meantime you can catch me on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram!

  • non-candy easter basket ideas

Did you know that Lent is already halfway over? My spending freeze is going pretty well (only a few small infractions, mostly kid-related) and my new daily practice of reading the Bible every day has been wonderful, thanks to an app with a reading plan + devotional that I love.

Currently, I’m not sure how I’m going to handle Easter with my kiddos. I’m vacillating between staying strict on the spending freeze to include not making extra purchases for them, and another of my goals for this year which is to celebrate more holidays at home, especially relating to the church calendar.

Of course we do celebrate Easter already – we go to church and do an egg hunt there and with the cousins, as well as having an extended family meal – but I also like the idea of having a special breakfast at home with small baskets ready for them to discover a few well-chosen gifts inside. So while I don’t know yet if I’ll be making any extra purchases this year, I’ve put together some ideas for you of the kinds of things I’m thinking of for this spring celebration.

    non candy easter basket ideas

1 – The One Year Devotions for Preschoolers – My mom got this for Meredith for Christmas and it’s so perfect for her age. Each devotion has a cute picture, a short and sweet message, a Bible verse, and prayer. I highly recommend it, especially if you want to give a gift that has a spiritual focus.

2 – Wildly Co. clothing – A good excuse to buy a piece of ethically-made, classic clothing for spring!

3 – Rain boots – As we enter the rainy season it’s a good idea to get a new pair of these. Tip: stalk ThredUp for the best deal.

4 – Crayola Sidewalk Chalk – This stuff is the best, and Easter is a perfect time to refresh your stash.

5 – Mini Madre Beads – Meredith wants all of these, but especially the unicorn one. ;)

6 – Resurrection eggs – Are these a little cheesy? Yes. But they tell the story of Jesus and would be a fun activity for the kids to do as well as filling up their baskets.

7 – Potted plant – One idea is to help them plant it, or just let them take care of it. And I like the idea of doing an aloe vera plant, because it has healing properties (so you could tie it in to a mini-lesson about Jesus being our healer). They are also very hardy, so bonus!

8 – Stamps – My kids really don’t get tired of these cheap little stamps. And they are so cute.

I’d love to know what you’re planning on doing for your kids for Easter. Or how did you celebrate growing up? My parents didn’t buy us non-candy stuff every year, but I remember being so pleased whenever those extra treats did show up.

  • things i love lately

Before I went on my spending freeze for Lent, I acquired a few new things that I’m really loving, so today I want to share those with you, if you’re curious!

    things i love lately

Banana Republic Margeaux sunglasses – I had a gift card to BR but none of the clothes were fitting me right. On a whim I tried on these sunglasses and they fit me perfectly. I have a hard time finding sunglasses that aren’t too tight or too loose, and that don’t leave marks on my nose. These feel great and look classic.

Threshold percale sheet set – I am so glad I discovered percale sheets. They are crisp and cool (a big deal if you live in Houston) but at the same time soft and cozy. In my experience (we have this same set in the kids’ room in the blue dots) they stay brighter and cleaner longer. This set found at Target is super affordable, too.

Threshold basket – Another Target find that I almost bought several times before I finally pulled the trigger. We’ve been using it for dirty towels in our bedroom and it looks pretty doing that job. :)

Banana Republic cubic zirconia round stud earring – These are the perfect everyday earrings. I love wearing studs, and these feel really solid, not like you might lose the backing to them at any moment (not that that’s happened to me with, oh, every other pair of earrings I’ve owned). I chose cubic zirconia because they go with silver or gold jewelry, and I think they make even my scrubs look a little classier. ;)

Soma vanishing edge underwear – This is possibly awkward, but these underwear are amazing and I can’t not share with you. They are soft, comfy, and stay in place due to a plastic lining on the edge. I bought eight – half in black, half in nude – and I’m good to go.

Margaret M Emer high waisted trousers – I don’t have a photo or a direct link to these because I got them through Stitch Fix. The link here goes to the Google page where you can see a ton of pictures and reviews. I don’t have an office job and I don’t get dressed up much, but these can be dressed down easily and they are perfect on the days where I have meetings.

I’d love to hear what you’re loving lately!

  • things i love lately

Hi friends! Today I wanted to pop in with something fun, just share a few of the things I’m loving lately. Let’s get to it!

    things i love one

Aerosoles Landlock Chukka Boots – I have been on the lookout for casual booties for quite awhile now, but it’s tough for me since I have wide feet. My friend Maggie ordered these and let me try them on – lucky for me we wear the same size – and they are SO comfortable. The soft suede makes them great for wide feet, too. I immediately ordered some in black but went back to get the this taupe color as well!

Madre Beads – I’m a brand ambassador for this awesome mama-run small business, so I get a small discount on their products which is great for me because they are so high quality, add a playful and stylish twist to my usual boring outfits, and I’m supporting a maker. I just placed a huge order now that the shop is restocked and I can’t wait for it to get here!

Beautycounter Lip Sheers – I recently discovered this brand and have been so impressed with everything I’ve tried from them. I’m currently obsessed with the lip sheers which glide on so smoothly and make me actually want to wear lipstick! (Link goes to my consultant’s page who I love to support!)

Wildly Co. – This is another small business I love! They have a line of ethically produced children’s clothing – it’s like a capsule wardrobe for kids! I’m particularly loving this hoodie, which is on sale btw, because it’s perfect for our Houston “winters.”

    things i love two

Cake pops – I’m happy to say that I’ve solved a lifelong conundrum: what is my favorite dessert? Well, it’s cake pops. And I’ve only tried them from Starbucks! I think I need to take it to another level and make it my mission to try out every other local baker.

Jord Ely watch – I won this watch in a giveaway ages ago, but couldn’t wear it because it was huge on my wrist. If you buy the watches yourself you can easily size them, but since I didn’t I had to figure out how to remove links and it wasn’t easy. I’m thankful for Dads with mechanical knowledge and the right tools. But now I love it so much and I always get compliments when I wear it.

What Should I Read Next podcast – Yes I’m still way into podcasts and I’m still very picky about the ones I add to my permanent subscribe list. This is a new one hosted by one of my favorite bloggers whose taste in and knowledge of books I admire. It’s pretty short, funny at times, interesting, and just so clever.

Hair Skin Nails – This is a supplement that It Works sells (I’m an independent distributor for them) and for so long I didn’t think I needed to try it because I wasn’t interested in growing out my hair. Well, then I chopped it a little too short so I figured I’d give it a try. Just two weeks into taking it I suddenly began receiving compliments on my hair from random people. I do think my hair is growing faster, but more than that my hair is thicker and stronger than ever (and I have superfine hair so that’s important). It’s a customer favorite and I see why! (At the link you’ll have to search for the product!)

That’s it, just a few new things I’m loving. How about you?
