  • congratulations, woob

I can’t believe that you have actually graduated from college. In my mind you’re still the little boy who was obsessed with baseball, slept in all those weird positions, let me kiss his tummy, and wanted to be called a new nickname every day. I guess you’re still obsessed with baseball and sleep in weird positions, but now I just pat your tummy and only one nickname has really stuck. Sorry for all the games we played back then where it was David and me versus you. Sorry for the hideous buzz cut we gave you that is commemorated in our uncle’s wedding pictures, and sorry for “dropping the attic stairs on your head.” (You know what the quotes are for.)

It wasn’t until I went off to college that I began to realize how great you are. I remember David telling me once, “Barry is actually really funny!” as if we were both having this epiphany about who you had become, even though we lived with you for so many years. It makes me really happy that you two are now best friends. As the only girl I don’t expect to share the same relationship, but I hope you know that I would do anything for you, I’m really good to talk to if you ever need someone, and I will always be your friend as well as your sister.

Basically, what I want to say is that I think you’re really cool and I’m glad I get to hang around you. It makes me feel cool by association. Also, I’m proud of you, little brother.

  • hey

Not that anyone is reading this anymore, but just in case, I wanted to let you know that I’m headed to Lubbock for the weekend to watch my youngest brother graduate from Texas Tech. THAT makes me feel old. Anyway, I’ll be back early next week to continue posting for my own benefit.

  • Making The Grade (Or Not)

I took the final in my pediatric nursing class this morning. This is a class that I disliked the entire way through, and which had a reputation for being very difficult. I got a low B on the first test, freaked out, and then worked really hard the rest of the semester and pulled off low A’s on the next two tests and a perfect score on a group presentation. The way things stood, if I got a 91 on the final this morning, I would get an A in the class.

Well, the grades were just posted, and I got a 90.

Talk about frustrating to a perfectionist like me.

As soon as I found out my grade I went and vented to my roommate, Amanda. One of the things I said to her was, “I worked so hard in this class and made A’s on everything except the first test. But my classmate made C’s on most of her exams, got a B on the final, and ended up with a B in the class also. Our grades are the same. Why did I even try so hard?”

She responded, “But that’s not why you worked hard. You did it so you could learn, and look back and say that you did your best.”

Feeling dejected and guilty, I hung my head and said, “You’re right.”

After a moment’s pause she said, “But that’s not what you want to hear right now. So if you want, we can go toilet paper your professor’s house.”

    That’s what friends are for.

  • Christmas List

Around Christmas time I really get the urge to shop, which is normal, but it really stinks that I don’t have any money to speak of. So what I did instead was go “shopping” for things to put on my Christmas list. Everyone in our family is required to make a list and send it out, and I can’t imagine doing Christmas shopping without them. I make sure to make mine complete and send it out to everyone, not just my mom, well in advance every year. :)

In case you’re interested, or even if you’re not, these are some things that I came up with this year.

    >Of course, Gilmore Girls – seasons 4, 6, and 7. Also House season 3.

    >The JBL Spot speakers for my computer.

    >Over the Rhine CD’s Snow Angels and Live From Nowhere Vol. 2.

    >The microdelivery peel by Philosophy.

    >The women’s tweed pleated lady coat from Gap.

    >Running shoes, specifically Nike Shox Navina.

    >I am in desperate need of some sunglasses, and I really like these from Anthropologie.

     >Cranium, an excellent game for the game nights which we frequently host.

And finally, what I want most of all that I’m not really expecting to get (but if I don’t get I will surely save up and buy myself)…

    >The Garmin GPS. It is amazing and I am in love with it.

So, what’s on your Christmas list?
