I’ve obviously changed the look of things around here, and the reason is that my old design was entirely outdated. For one thing, I was sick of looking at the picture of myself in the header. Also, it said “engagement edition 2008” when I’ve been married for six months now. And finally, the look of the site didn’t really reflect my preferences anymore.
So my brother is working on a new design (which I love), but since he does have a real job I am not his top priority. I don’t know why not, but try as I may I could not get him to change his mind. Anyway, instead of bugging him to death, I just decided to mix things up myself until he has the time to finish the redesign. Right now it’s pretty boring, but I’m working on it. I’m anything but a web design master, so bear with me.
From Scott:
Are you going to be using templates or editing the layout source code yourself (or a combination of the two)?
From Kathleen:
Actually, Scott, my plan was to guilt brother David into showing me how to add a header and some other things to this site and in exchange I would quit bothering him. Failing that, I was going to spend hours fruitlessly trying to figure it out myself using online tutorials.
My new plan is: do you think YOU can help me??
From Scott:
Of course – I owe you anyway for helping me with my website
(but remember – I’m no professional!)
From Megan:
1. I’m so glad you got rid of “Engagement Edition.” It made me feel that my memories of that fun and full weekend of your wedding were just a figment of my imagination.
2. That said, I actually like the simplicity of this design. I feel like it suits you and your personal slogan. There’s no catch.
3. That said, I may not know what I’m talking about because your old site no longer suits your current “preferences.” This confession struck me to the core. You no longer like light blue? You no longer like doggie paw prints? What is HAPPENING in the world? Who ARE you?!
4. That said, it’s late. I’m tired. I should have sent this in an email instead of posting it as verbal-vomit on your blog. But you said you like comments. (Or DO you? I just don’t know anymore…)
From Kathleen:
Megan: I love your verbal-vomit! Keep it coming!
As for my “preferences,” I DO like light blue and doggie paw prints and my engagement pictures, but not all together as a design on my website. I also really like simplicity and clean lines, so this works for now. I’m trying to get some kind of header put up, because this is just a tad boring. The new design will be cleaner, with the colors I’m into now, and won’t be so specific to a period of time in my life.
Don’t worry, I haven’t changed…much!
From Mom:
I don’t care what it looks like, just don’t take it away anymore!
You could put a bouquet of happy tulips in the header for now, till you figure it out.
