  • project life 2014 : weeks 23-24

This spread is from June 2 – 15 and it’s one of my recent favorites.

It encompassed two pretty regular weeks, along with Father’s Day. I had more photos than this, but I edited them down in order to keep things more simple and to have a little extra room to breathe. I’m glad I did.

I had an extra space to do some journaling and I used it to write a broad overview of our lives.

I noticed that for my filler cards and journaling cards I’m almost exclusively using black and white now. I guess I’m in a phase where I just like the photos to provide the color.

All of us with my dad on Father’s Day. Liam is the sleeping blob in my brother’s arms.

He’s getting better at the Bumbo! And tolerating it for longer stretches.

    The end. :)

  • project life 2014 : weeks 21-22

I usually do my Project Life spreads over the weekend (sometimes quickly on Saturday morning, sometimes in bits and pieces over both days) but I was so busy last weekend that I just finished this up yesterday evening. I really didn’t want to put it off any longer because for me right now it’s all about getting it done and staying on schedule. Therefore I did hardly any journaling at all.

    project life 2014 weeks 21-22

This is from May 19 to June 1. It’s mostly everyday photos, a group shot of the church group that ran the 5k, a couple of craft works-in-progress, and some filler.

I just let the week in review cards do most of the talking, and only labeled a few photos for context.

During this time I also documented a day in the life on Instagram. I decided to make it an insert using these pocket page protectors.

I typed the journaling in Photoshop Elements on the grid view to make sure it would fit in the 2×2 pockets. For the 2×2 square photos I just created a collage in PSE to come out with a 4×6 photo that I could have printed traditionally.

I love these little square pockets and this was my first time to use them. I really want to play around with these more one day but for now I kept it simple.

  • works in progress

Yesterday I shared with you that I’m totally overwhelmed by extra projects, and today I’m going to show you what they are. :)

    quilt front

    quilt back

First of all we have the quilt that I’ve been making forever. I was planning on backing it with plain navy fabric, but I didn’t have enough so I patched together these rows and just threw it together quickly. It’s fine. I think I would have preferred the plain, but oh well. Next steps here are pressing and basting the layers together with the batting. I think I am going to machine quilt the long lines and then hand quilt around each triangle. However, for the moment I’m taking a step back from the quilt to focus on other things.

    liam's stocking

Like Liam’s stocking! Over the weekend I finished the top including the personalization, which is the most annoying part to do but is also the most special. I am finding that I really love felt needlepoint, and I’d like to make some ornaments and possibly an advent calendar during the fall, so I’m going to try and finish this stocking during the summer.

    runner

This is a table runner I’m making for our dresser, tutorial found here. It’s so simple and cute. I want to get this done pretty quickly so I can move on and share some updated photos of that part of our room with you.

    cannas

Lastly, I was gifted a bunch of flowers: canna lilies, irises, and amaryllis. I’m in the process of clearing out a bed for them, but I think I may have to pot them in the meantime. I’m excited about the prospect of growing flowers but I’m afraid I will kill them!

What are you working on these days?

  • project life 2014 : weeks 19 – 20

I’m happy to say that I’m still keeping up with Project Life. This is from May 5 – 18.

    project life weeks 19-20

There’s nothing really new here; it’s all my same old simple techniques. I did include an insert with the photos of our house from this post. I kind of set them apart by bordering them all in white, and I think it makes them look less cluttered.

    project life weeks 19-20

I always use some kind of tab when I do an insert.

    project life weeks 19-20

This was when our second dog died, so I included her picture and a little extra journaling about that event. A rare photo of my husband makes an appearance, one of Meredith and her cousin being adorable, and a screen shot of a new favorite song.

    project life weeks 19-20

And I just love this photo of Liam sucking his thumb. Meredith didn’t do that, so it still makes me smile every time I see him do it. :)

    project life weeks 19-20

On the right side we have Liam’s four month update, a couple things from Mother’s Day, a photo of me & Meredith on our sick day, random cute Liam, and a collage of toddler selfies.

I do regret that I didn’t get any pictures of myself with my kids on Mother’s Day, and none of me with my mom either! I kinda wish I had written more about the day here as well, but I do have it written down in another journal so it’s not too big of a deal. Moving on!

  • project life 2014 : weeks 17 – 18

This spread is from April 21 to May 4. I am still loving my simple layouts, but I do miss all the playing with paper and supplies that I used to do. That’s why I’ve been thinking so much about trying art journaling lately. I even went so far as to gather some supplies together last weekend. Of course I’ll let you know how that goes if I get around to it. :)

    project life 2014 weeks 17-18

These were a regular couple of weeks. I love the bottom left photo of us reading at bedtime.

    project life 2014 weeks 17-18

I also wrote in a bit more detail about the healthy habits I’ve been incorporating, specifically running.

I just love this photo of the kids. Meredith is so pretty when she’s not doing her cheese face, and Liam’s expression cracks me up.

    project life 2014 weeks 17-18

Yesterday Meredith and I were home sick recovering from a stomach bug, and although I missed Liam I have to say it was awesome to reconnect with her in that way. Since she wasn’t feeling great she was calm and sweet and I just had a blast playing with her and taking a long nap cuddled next to her. Today we are all feeling better and Liam rolled over from back to front for the first time so things are back to normal!
