  • Notes For A Lazy Monday

Hi friends! I am loving this long weekend, how about you? If you have to work today, I am sincerely sorry. I understand though; I used to have to work every other weekend and most holidays. I love my new schedule! Anyway, here are a few things buzzing around in my head today.

    The Bachelorette Recap & Review

My brother is one of the main contributors to the blog ApeDonkey (I have no idea why it’s called that), which features mostly TV reviews. Since it’s only guys writing the blog they tend to feature masculine shows. I asked him jokingly if he was going to recap The Bachelorette this season, and he in all seriousness suggested that I do so. And because I don’t have anything else going on in my life right now, I said yes. I’m not ashamed to admit that I quite enjoy this show despite its ridiculousness and cheese factor. Anyway, I watched the season premiere late so my first recap is just now up. Read it and comment please! It was my first attempt at writing a TV show review, so hopefully I’ll improve throughout the season. :)

    Reading Challenge

Here’s yet another thing that I’m taking on this summer: Ashley’s Infinite Jest in a summer challenge! I love read-a-longs and book challenges, and after reading the summary and reviews of Infinite Jest (apparently it’s kind of a modern classic) I decided that it’s something I’m definitely interested in. Although the book is 1000+ pages long, we’re reading it all summer which boils down to about 15 pages a day. I think I can do that! I’ve purchased it for my Sony Reader so I don’t have to lug around such a fat volume, and we start reading June 1st. Visit Ashley’s blog if you want to participate!

    Nursery Progress

This weekend we finished painting the nursery, installed new blinds, and put all the furniture together. It’s starting to actually look like a baby’s room now! There is still a lot of work to be done: put up curtains, repaint an old rocking chair, obtain crib bedding, put up wall decorations, and organize. But still, it’s exciting.

    Call For Blog Ideas

I feel like I’ve been neglecting this blog a little bit, and although I’ve sort of done it on purpose because it can’t be my priority right now, I’ve been brainstorming ways to put some fresh life into it and keep it fun. One thing I love in other blogs are recurring features or series of posts. I’ve got a few ideas in mind, but I was wondering, what are your favorites? My goal is to use my weekend downtime to get 2-3 posts scheduled for each week, and if I have some features planned it’ll be easier to meet that.

Thanks y’all! Enjoy the rest of your holiday, and I hope your week goes by fast!

  • Monday Links

I had a rough week last week, physically and mentally, and although the physical stuff isn’t going away, a long weekend with my best friend, her husband, and two adorable kids has pretty much healed me mentally. I’ve barely checked Twitter all weekend, haven’t opened a book, and it seems ages since I’ve blogged regularly. Hopefully I’ll be back in action this week, but in the meantime here are a few links that I have found fun, interesting, or uplifting.

    >My brother created this addicting website called Epic Spoilers. A movie spoiler pops up, you mouse over it, and the movie name appears (along with Netflix and Rotten Tomatoes integration!) The tagline is “You know you want to,” and it’s true. I know the endings of way too many movies now.

    >Kate shared this link on Twitter, and it was hilarious. As she said, “Kate Middleton is amused by your simple, unroyal life.”

    >Thankfully I don’t have to deal with this for awhile, but reading this post about changing to reusable pads was super interesting. I am no longer utterly disgusted by the idea!

    >I want to subscribe to a bunch more magazines just to make an inspiration journal like this!

    >I was in Babies R Us today doing some pre-registry research, and when I saw that a Moby wrap costs $40 for what is literally just a long piece of knit fabric I was convinced that I can make my own. I searched and found this tutorial – no sewing required!

Have a great week and I’ll be back soon!

  • friday things: from the week

I’ll be choosing the winner of the Nintendo points card tonight when I get home from work. My family requested that I video the drawing, so I suppose I will give in and do so. I warned you there would be random videos from now on. Check back later to see if you won!

This week has not been my favorite. My mood has echoed the weather, which has looked like this:

This is not to say that I dislike the rain (although I’m not saying I like the rain either), but coincidentally this weather has matched up perfectly with my periodic hormonal imbalance. I haven’t had any energy at all, and no motivation to get anything done. I’ve been working most of the week, but on my sole day off I did nothing but read and play games on the Wii all day long. I’m slowly gaining my happiness back, and the awesome weekend I have planned is probably part of that.

My husband has lately taken to calling my dog Cleo “sickly.” I don’t like that term because it implies that she’s a needy invalid with a short life expectancy. I keep telling him she just has a sensitive stomach! But seriously, her gagging and vomiting all over the house is getting a bit old. You know how dogs chew grass to make themselves throw up? Cleo did that the other day, except with our carpet. I’m not even joking, she swallowed a melon-sized wad of carpet and then regurgitated it. First of all, I’m just glad she didn’t choke to death. Second, what the heck? Third, anyone have recommendations for carpet or carpet installers?

(For those of you that may be worried about Cleo’s health, I am too. But not overly. I am pretty sure it has to do with a new food we tried with her. So for now we’re changing to a healthier kind, limiting her treats, and eliminating people food altogether. Hopefully it solves the problem.)

Last week I finally gave in and exchanged my bus pass to a parking pass for work. This was my first full week driving every day, and I can say for sure that I have a problem on my hands. Every day on my way home, I become overwhelmingly drowsy. It’s a 40-minute drive in the heat of the afternoon after I’ve worked all day, and I have SUCH a hard time staying awake. I’ve tried calling David, slapping myself, rolling down the windows, and most recently I’ve resorted to listening to pop stations on the radio. This was surprisingly effective, until yesterday when I heard that terrible “California Gurls” song two times within five minutes. That song makes me want to dig out my own eardrums with a screwdriver, and the fact that “gurls” is spelled with a “u”? Don’t even get me started. All that to say, I’m currently on the hunt for songs to add to my “Don’t Die In A Fiery Car Crash” playlist.

On the off chance that there is someone reading this who enjoys soccer and the World Cup, here is a really funny & insightful article that my dad sent me: “Soccer is ready to capture our attention.”

And if you, like me, enjoyed the Twilight books back when you read them once a long time ago, but are kind of sick of the whole thing by now, although you still want to see the movies because why not, and now you get more enjoyment out of making fun of the series than anything else, here is a link for you. A dude reads the books and blogs his thoughts chapter by chapter. Why couldn’t I have written this? Blogging Twilight.

  • Elsewhere: Featured Career

I was happy to be interviewed by Amber at Girl with the Red Hair for her Monday Meeting Featured Career. I know I had no idea what being a nurse was really like until I decided to become one, and you might not either. Go visit her blog today and read about the ups and downs of nursing, a typical shift, and why it’s not exactly like Grey’s Anatomy. And if you’re interested in stories, check out my nursing thread!

On the job at the hospital!
