30 days of lists : days 21 – 30 (and what I thought of it)

October 7, 2014

Well 30 days of lists is over! Here are my last set of lists, followed by my thoughts on joining the challenge officially for the first time. So! This was a fun and easy journaling challenge. They run it every March and September with a different set of prompts. I’ve followed it in the past but never joined officially until now, because I didn’t want to pay for something I could just come up with by myself. And of course, you can always see the prompts once they are released, or go through the old ones. However, joining “officially” gave me access to the private blog and Facebook group. I checked this once a day. I didn’t get super involved,…

working mama files // maggie rhoden

October 6, 2014

Working Mama Files is an interview series designed to support and encourage working moms along the path to having a fulfilling life. Today I am featuring one of my real life friends, Maggie Rhoden. I met Maggie at my first job, before either of us had kids, where we both started out working on an inpatient oncology unit as nurses. We connected quickly and stayed friends after Maggie changed specialties. She is so fun and laid-back and real, and I just adore being her friend. She is also my motherhood pen pal! I know you will love her! Who lives in your house? My husband and myself along with our 8 month old son, Rory and our 5 year old…

Today I’m sharing some stuff I found around the internet. I adore morning routines, but mine is pretty dependent on when the kids wake up. >Super excited about Ronnie’s new memory-keeping blog. >Pretty dang excited to see what the A Beautiful Mess products will look like. >You are not defined by your child. I tell myself this a lot! >Cleaning tips for the not-so-perfect home. I have a pretty…

tgif : busy week edition

October 3, 2014

The high of my week was book club last Sunday, where both kids came and both kids were extraordinarily well-behaved! The low of my week was probably getting a headache at work on Monday while I was the only nurse there, being paranoid that it would turn into a migraine, and being so busy that I couldn’t eat lunch until close to 3 p.m. The best money I spent was a few dollars for more dark chocolate covered almonds. It’s my daily snack and I’m much happier with it. :) A podcast episode I loved was “The Readers on the Nightstand” from Books on the Nightstand. They did a Q&A session with the hosts of UK-based podcast The Readers and it was so interesting! It also…

what i read : july to september 2014

October 2, 2014

Still not a ton of books for the past few months, but my reading has been picking up again lately! I’m excited to write more about books here going forward. Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry – What can I even say about this book? It’s an epic western and totally deserving of its Pulitzer. The characters were amazing. Even when nothing was really “happening” I just enjoyed their company. Lots of it I found funny, but then suddenly something very dark and sad would happen. It left me with an ache that is hard to describe. (5 stars) Dark Hope by Monica McGurk – Kind of a Twilight knockoff only with angels & demons. A bit boring in parts, but…
