I’ve been making my own cards for years, but I was only recently introduced to the concept of embroidering paper. Now a whole new world has opened up for me! This is the first one I made:
I wanted to keep it simple and just feature the embroidery since this was my first try. I got the pattern for the smiling cake from the stitchalong at Feeling Stitchy. I just printed it out, placed it on top of the cardstock, then poked holes with a thumbtack where I wanted to stitch. I widened the holes with my needle from front to back, then did a back stitch.
I was worried about the French knots because I was afraid the holes might tear that close together, but it worked out.
Inside I taped some cute paper over the back of the embroidering and stamped a sweet birthday message. I think it turned out really cute!
It took me several days to finish because of work, baby, etc., but I think it was worth it. I had a lot of fun making it and my friend loved it. The only sad part is that she never got to see it in person because I set it on top of my car while I buckled Meredith in to her car seat on our way to brunch, then I drove off. Hopefully someone somewhere will find it on the road, open it, and smile. :)
