  • currently (& a new feature)

New favorite picture of the kids.

Every other Friday I’ve been sharing links to some good stuff I found around the Internet. On the other Fridays I like to pop in with a quick personal post, and today I want to add a feature to those “currently” posts.

One of the podcasts I love is called One Bad Mother (warning: there are swears) and every week they share their genius & fail moments as a parent. It’s probably my favorite part of the show, and I thought it would be fun to share my own personal genius & fails with y’all every couple of weeks. And of course, I’d love it if you’d chime in with your own!

Genius : getting myself and the kids ready in the morning can be…stressful. The worst is getting Meredith dressed, because she takes SO LONG. If she can’t get the clothes on right she might possibly have a breakdown. And if I try to help her, omg, it’s like I’m torturing her or something. Half of the mornings result in tears. So one night this week David took her to Kohl’s because he had some Kohl’s cash that was expiring and he bought her a cute little shirt and shorts. She was so excited she wanted to wear it to sleep, and I realized: genius. In the morning she was excited to wear her new clothes to school and it saved so much time. It’s worked a couple days in a row so far!

Fail : for the last two nights in a row Meredith and I have gone to bed almost two hours later than usual. Therefore we both woke up super grumpy and emotional today, I definitely snapped at her which made me feel super great about myself (sarcasm), I didn’t have time to make our healthy breakfast, and now I’m REALLY having to work to snap out of it. Bed at 7pm today!!

    Currently :

trying to shake off my funk.

missing Twitter and Instagram. I’ve been more active blogging, but less active there and I miss the conversation and the friends. Lately the trend is to cut back on social media but I find myself wanting to make more of an effort at it.

ready to get back to my quilt. I’ve been in the mood to sew and I want to get the quilt finished so I can move on to other projects. Next step is basting and then quilting.

fitting in more reading time here and there and I sense that my slump is ending.

excited about starting half marathon training next week! Our work gym opens the same day my first run is scheduled, which is so nice because I didn’t want to run in the heat and I don’t mind the treadmill for shorter distances.

signed up for a 10k at the end of September with my brother and sister-in-law.

planning a date night for this weekend. I think we are going to do a food truck crawl!

enjoying an afternoon coffee break most days at work.

eating mostly paleo except for a little cheese and yogurt, and…

snacking on dark chocolate covered almonds daily.

writing snail mail letters and cards to friends.

praying about where to serve in my community.

snacking on dark chocolate covered almonds.

limiting dairy in my diet because it makes me feel bloated.

hoping it doesn’t rain tomorrow for Meredith’s birthday party in the park.

    keeping the party stuff simple.

starting a new daily photography project involving my Instax.

wishing for a digital camera other than my iPhone.

itching to tweak my blog design.

loving my morning Bible study time.

    evaluating our budget.

planning my whole-life personal organization notebook.

needing to dig deep for patience with the kids sometimes.

missing one of the daycare teachers who I’d come to like, who just left to continue her schooling.

enjoying the company of David’s aunt who is in town.

taking Liam for his six-month checkup this afternoon.

feeling energized and excited about the weekend.

thinking that it might be time to switch to iced coffee in the mornings.

reading Allegiant…still. It’s just not exciting me so I’m not making time to read. I need to just abandon it or quickly push through.

re-reading Practicing His Presence. Other than the Bible this book has been the most influential on my spiritual life and from the very first pages I feel deeply moved.

wanting a blender for smoothies. It doesn’t have to be a nice one, just functioning.

surprised to find a $50 gift card to Target in my wallet that I haven’t used. How did that happen? Might use it for the blender!

excited about the new (free!) gym opening up at work. It’s going to be perfect for summer workouts.

training for a 5k on the 24th. Due to random circumstances (weather, sickness) I haven’t run in over a week so I’m a little nervous about how this is going to go.

wondering if a Fitbit is a good investment. Everyone seems to love them, but is it something that is worth it in the long run?

hoping to pick up some quilt batting this weekend since I have a coupon.

listening to this song on repeat.

on my own at home until Sunday while my husband goes on a fishing trip with his dad and uncle.

returning to our routine after last week’s hospital visit.

learning to administer nebulizers to a baby, and praying he doesn’t develop asthma as a result of this RSV.

    coughing up a storm.

grateful for my short commute (as I am everyday…I don’t know if the excitement over it will ever wear off).

sleeping poorly still; between my sore throat, Liam’s coughing, and our dog, something is always waking me up.

drinking two cups of coffee per day.

contemplating posting to the blog five days a week; I’m very inspired right now but I’m not convinced I could maintain it in the future.

spending my downtime at work (which is a lot) taking continuing education classes.

preparing to press my quilt rows and sew them together.

    reading Allegiant.

listening to podcasts while I run, specifically catching up on One Bad Mother.

enjoying the break from life that running gives me, even though I’m pretty out of shape.

wanting to incorporate yoga into my routine on my off days to stretch my muscles.

finding that meal planning & cooking dinners isn’t so hard after all.

interested in trying a paint by number kit.

wondering if I’ll be able to kill all the grass that has overgrown my garden in time to plant next year.

thinking that I’m just going to start hanging things on our bedroom wall without planning it out first.

wishing my husband a happy birthday

anticipating some alone time with him tonight and this weekend

pleased that my family got him Apple TV just in time for maternity leave

holding back from making any goals for the year since it’s so in my nature to do so, but still…

forming a list of things to do on maternity leave

really into cross stitch again and looking forward to sharing more works-in-progress and finished projects

contemplating buying  this loom kit to try more weaving projects

    sleeping poorly and propped up

taking down holiday decorations a little at a time

drinking orange juice every morning and evening

amused and exasperated in equal parts that Meredith hates changing clothes these days

grateful that the super cold weather will be ending soon

thinking that although it’s probably easier overall to be fully pregnant in the winter (hooray for no swelling), it’s pretty annoying to bundle up and leave the house every day

praying for energy daily and the ability to stay positive about working up until I go into labor

so ready for this next phase of life to begin
