december daily : completed

January 4, 2013

And this little album is finished! I decided to end it after Christmas because now I am completely focused on the new year and a fresh start in so many areas. But I’m pleased with the tradition and I think it’ll make a nice addition to the holidays, even though as I said before I won’t be doing it on a daily basis in the future. You should have seen what was going on while I was taking these pictures. I had to keep moving the book around on the floor because the child or dogs would get too close. I was trying not to let Meredith get her grubby little hands on it but unfortunately I wasn’t quick enough…

five favorite books of 2012

January 3, 2013

Many of the books I read in 2012 I liked a lot and rated 4 stars. But only five (technically six, because I cheated) would I say I LOVED and rated 5 stars. Ptolemy’s Gate by Jonathan Stroud – This is the third in a trilogy of children’s fantasy that I listened to on audiobook and thoroughly enjoyed. It was a perfect example of what a final book should be. Nicholas and Alexandra by Robert K. Massie – I’m fascinated with Russian history, and this is one of those stories where the truth really is stranger than fiction. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak – The characters were the main draw for me here. I loved them. Sabriel and Lirael…

what i read : october to december 2012

January 2, 2013

My reading slowed waaaay down at the end of this year because a) holidays are crazytown, b) I mostly listened to Christmas music on my commute instead of audiobooks, and c) I started reading Moby-Dick and The Passage, both of which I am still in the middle of, and both of which are super long. But! Here is what I did finish. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern: Exactly my kind of book – a little magical, mysterious, romantic, with lots of foreshadowing and pretty words. While I was reading I felt like it was a little too long, but I’d probably enjoy that on a re-read. (4 stars) The End by Lemony Snicket: The last of the Series of Unfortunate Events books, and…

january goals

January 1, 2013

This year I don’t have any big resolutions. Instead there are a lot of little things that I want to change and accomplish, so to that end my new year’s “resolution” is to make monthly goals. In January I wanted to start small because I’m still recovering from the holidays. I’m signed up for the Day by Day class at Studio Calico, and I’m hoping it’ll help me get the most out of my Project Life. This year I really, really want to make a quilt (I got this book and these supplies for Christmas) but it might take me all year so I’m separating it into simple steps. Of the rest, the hardest one just might be leaving work…

project life 2012 : weeks 45 – 46

December 28, 2012

I’m apparently taking an unplanned break from regular blogging for the holidays, due to Meredith coming down with a virus for almost a week over Christmas (fever of 104+ for five days! Scary!) and now dealing with a really tough week of work. I hope to be back on track next week, but today I wanted to share the first two weeks of December. Fairly neutral layout this week, with lots of blues. On the left side I mostly left the photos alone and just did one journaling card. Most of our holiday stuff is being documented in my December daily album, but I had a couple more things I wanted to fit in. Pretty simple on the right side…
