  • ikea shopping list

So as I was saying earlier this week, I visited IKEA last weekend since Meredith and I were kicked out of the house while our carpet was installed. It’s about a 30-minute trek to get there for me and we all know that once you’re inside it’s never a quick trip, so I don’t go very often. I do love it for home accessories though! I brought home a lot of this stuff and wanted to share.

    For our bedroom:

    ikea bedroom

INDIRA bedspread – even though I want a handmade blanket with a little more color as a permanent bedcover, this will be great for in the meantime and for layering later on.

EIVOR throw – so classic, so good. I need more black and white in my house.

RACKA curtain rods – I’ve heard that these cheap curtain rods actually hold up really well! I got them for our bedroom and also for several other places in our house.

FORSA lamp  – I think an industrial-style work lamp like this is perfect for our nightstands. I have learned that it is super hot to touch when it’s turned on though, so word of warning!

    For kiddos:

    ikea kids

LATT children’s table and two chairs – Meredith would LOVE this and use it all the time. We didn’t get it yet because I think my dad might be making her a table, but if that doesn’t work out this is a great deal.

BEKVAM step stool – we got this so kids can reach the sink for handwashing, and maybe to “help” with cooking.

DUKTIG doll bed – Meredith has started to like to put all of her toys to “nigh nigh” so a little doll bed would be fun for her.

DUKTIG baking set – It’s the season for baking and I would love for her to be able to mimic mommy. Plus these would be great play-doh toys.

    For the whole house:

FEJKA artificial plants – I love the fig (they didn’t have it though) but I got the succulent and a couple of herbs. Most of their artificial plants look pretty realistic if you don’t get too close! I got a few for the low light areas of our house that aren’t great for plant growth. I’m not great at plant care yet but I really do want to have more live plants in our house as well, but there are some spots where they just won’t thrive.

Planters: MANDEL, FRIDFULL, SOCKER, KARDEMUMMA – Of course plants need plant pots and I like these affordable options.

SOCKER watering can – This is just useful, and the style of it is something I wouldn’t mind keeping out.

Cushions & covers: LAPPLJUNG RUTA – I have a serious lack of throw pillows. Need more.

Aside from these things we also have some of their curtains, a coffee table (which isn’t holding up that well & we’ll have to replace), and all of our nursery furniture (crib, shelves, dresser) which is working out great. Especially the HEMNES dresser which looks so nice and is very solid quality!

What do you love at IKEA? I’m taking notes for my next trip there. :)

  • new carpet and bedroom progress!

Our new carpet is in! As you can see, Cleo is already enjoying it, as am I. When I wake up I feel like it’s an entirely different room.

While it was being installed I made a trip to IKEA with Meredith. I had fun shopping for some accessories (I’ll be posting more about that this week) and you can see a few of them here.

Once we got the room put back together David said, “Hey, the bed is looking good!” That made me happy because usually he couldn’t care less about my decor updates. I keep telling him that I have a vision and this is only the start.

It’s already come such a long way in just a few weeks, starting out like this:

And today it looks like this:

Now if you squint and imagine a beautiful crocheted blanket on top (which my mom has started – yay!), wooden nightstands with a matching lamp on each side, a pretty bench at the foot of the bed, some kind of headboard, and stuff on the walls…well, you can kind of see it, right? :)

  • list 9 : when i need a time out

This past weekend was great, but it was also exhausting so that I feel like I need a weekend from the weekend, you know? Anyway, this topic seemed appropriate as I recover from all the intense productivity. :)

This actually turned out to be one of my favorite lists in appearance, simple as it is, mostly because my Instax picture actually turned out looking good! I think it’s way easier to get a good shot of something far away than up close.

find a cozy corner and do something calming that I love (read, stitch)

    take a good shower

    eat something yum

    have a cup of coffee

    nap (if possible)

    phone a friend (or mom)

    drive somewhere alone

Next month: I’ll be posting on November 4, and let me know if you’re going to join in and want the topic ahead of time.

  • quick takes

    one

I am so tired today. It’s been too much week. We’ve had something planned every night this week except for one, and that night the toddler was a hellion so I’m just beat. It was good stuff that we were doing: dinner with family, church, and our anniversary dinner (we went here and it was delish) but I’m just not used to having so much to do after work. Tonight we have to prep our house for carpet installation which is a lot of work, but I’m also super excited about the result.

    two

This week at work has been lighter than usual which I am very grateful for, so I have had some computer time. I managed to blog every day this week, an accomplishment in itself, and I am also caught up with blog reading, Craigslist browsing, and my Pinterest feed. But the side effect is that I have a bunch more ideas and inspiration now that I still have no time to execute.

    three

Speaking of crafts that I have no time for, here is an update on my autumn sampler:

    autumn sampler progress

I haven’t worked on it since last weekend but it’ll get done…eventually.

    four

And here is how my niece’s stocking is going:

    stocking progress top

    stocking progress bottom

I’m pretty happy with it so far and it’s still a really fun project. My mother-in-law and sister-in-law are at work on some of the pieces so I think there might actually be a chance that we finish it in time.

    five

Here is what I want to get done this weekend, ideally: carpet installed and everything put back, regular chores, Project Life spread, list 9 for Book of Lists, some Photoshop work for a couple of blog posts, replace the outlets in the bedroom, visit the craft store to choose yarn for my blanket, a quick “just for fun” craft that I have supplies for, an IKEA trip, and painting the shelves in the bedroom. Plus I have a baby shower and church small group to attend. Sooo my plans might be overstretching things a bit. It doesn’t hurt to dream though, does it?

  • 5 years!

    wedding ceremony hug

    wedding dance

    wedding blur

Five years ago today David and I were married. The wedding was amazing but, like that last picture, a blur. We settled quickly into marriage and for us it wasn’t a big adjustment since we were raised in similar families and they are good friends with each other. We are blessed to share such compatibility.

Since then we have definitely experienced a lot of life. A debilitating disease for him that necessitated four surgeries, infertility and miscarriage, travels, work changes, windfalls, deaths of family members, the birth of our daughter and now the expectation of a son. Mostly though, we are in the midst of the daily grind. It’s hard, but it’s also so, so beautiful. We’re doing it together, and I’m loving it.
