Music Anyone?

March 1, 2007

I got my Nickel Creek ticket in the mail today (which is not the point of this entry, although I am very excited about that) and along with it there was an advertisement for emusic.com saying that if I only sign up for a subscription I will get a 14-day free trial and 50 free downloads! Well, turns out that there’s only 25 free downloads, but I did it anyway. Reason being, I have realized that I am so out of it regarding new music lately, and I don’t want to be. So far I’ve only used up one of my free songs. Please give me suggestions! I have no idea what to pick! Leave me a comment with a specific song or two that you suggest, and perhaps a little description of what it is like. I will be ever so grateful!

    From Summer Gibson:

Hey there- This has nothing to do with your request for song titles- I would be no good at that anyway. Either my students or my husband keep me up to date with music trends by handing me new burned CDs. I don’t know half of the songs or artists on them. Oh well!

Spring Break for my students is the week of the 12th. My mother-in-law lives on Lake Conroe so we will be headed that way. I am going to spend about 1 night with my grandparents in Spring. I would love to see you. Let me know what your plans are for that week and if you would have any free time!!!! :)

    From Peter K.:

U2’s new song ‘Window in the Skies’ – Nice lyrics “Oh can’t you see what Love has done?” Catchy chorus, classic U2 guitar work on the verse, simple but effective.

    From Scott:

if you are interested in some wonderful British folk music from a woman who can make even songs about cows sound beautiful, check out Kate Rusby. Specifically “William and Davy” (more upbeat), “Who Now Will Sing you Lullabies” (more mellow) and “Polly” or “Sir Eglamore” (if you want a true folk experience.)

    From Scott:

D’oh – it’s “Who Will Sing Me Lullabies”

    From David:

    “Hustling” by Rick Ross
“Make it Rain” by Fat Joe
    “Shoulda Lean” by Young Dro

    From Katy:

Scott’s suggestion of Kate Rusby is right on. I love her voice. She’s Irish, I think, so I just love listening to her accent.

This isn’t cool at all, but lately I’ve been listening to Justin Timberlake nonstop. Haha.

Also, some friends I went to college with just released a new album. Jackson Waters is the abnd. Download “Center of Attention.” It’s by far my favorite song of their’s.

    From Nathan:

I would suggest Azure Ray song “Rise”. Its a female duo with really great and different melodies as well as song arrangments. Also The Decemberists, a song called “Eli, the barrow boy” is a really great song. The singer’s voice is kind of strange in an enduring way but its a great story song.

    From Nathan:

    Enduring? Sorry i meant endearing.

    From David F:

I am enjoying “Phantom Limb” by The Shins, it’s quirky but lots of fun. I would second Peter’s suggestion. “Window in the Skies” is a great song.

    From Andrew:

I’ve been liking Snow Patrol lately….but I don’t actually know any of the names of their songs. There is one song I really like AND know the name of: Mad World (originally by Tears for Fears the version I have in mind is the one masterfully done by Gary Jules).

It is a very moody tune (it was on the donnie darko soundtrack)…the plus of which is that it sounds like a different song almost every time I give it a listen. That said, its colors are a broad spectrum of shades of blue, black and gray.

I love your new blog, and yes, I’m honored to be linked. =) AND, I got my Nickel Creek ticket in the mail this week, too! Much excitement…

I’m kinda out of the new music scene, too, so I’m enjoying these comments a lot. I really enjoyed seeing Regina Spektor in concert awhile back. Her music is better in concert, but “Fidelity” is fun to listen to.

HI! sooo, I just found out that Nickel Creek will be in Houston! and i’m majorly excited that you’ve already gotten your ticket! , I really really hope I can go, i’ve been waiting for this all my life…well since i first heard them anyway…
I wouldn’t know what to tell you as far as music goes. I like alot of stuff, but i tend to stick with older material… I mean do you remember seein’ my top 18 list? lol..i’m a 90’s kinda girl… although “Heartbeats” by Jose Gonzales didn’t come out till way into the 21st century…”Chasing Cars” by Snow Patrol is good, “How to save a life” by the Fray, anything by the Decemberist!
…umm…anything by Postal Service “Such Great Heights” is a good one… umm yeah, that’s all i got for now…
Hope you’re doing well!…you know, I almost forgot about your new weblog, I was getting sad that i hadn’t seen a new post from you, on xanga..ha. silly me.
