Any Ideas?

August 11, 2008

Hello internet,

I have absolutely no idea what music to walk down the aisle to in 53 days. Due to the location and my lack of planning, it will be recorded. We need songs for the wedding party processional, bridal processional, and recessional. Your thoughts?

Also, what are some good dancing songs? And what songs should I tell the DJ not to play?

I appreciate any ideas at all. I am sure I will be begging you for more advice soon enough.

    From Marchar:

    Hi Kathleen,

I will do some research on this for you but right off the top I think of the following:

    Bach’s Jesu,
    Pachebel’s Cannon in D
    Mendelssohn’s Wedding March
    Bach’s Air on a G String
    Vivaldi’s Spring, Allegro
These can be heard along with other music on iTunes:

I would not include Ave Marie because it exaults Mary the mother of Jesus as deity — as a mediator between humans and Christ. Jesus Christ is our mediator. Mary is mortal just as we are and reference to her as deity and mediator is not biblical.

    Hi Kathleen!

I have a great idea! There’s a song from the Legends of the Fall soundtrack called “The Ludlows” that is a gorgeous instrumental… the song is a little hollywood show-y but a friend of mine always envisioned herself walking down the aisle to the last minute where there’s a beautiful violin solo.. download it and see for yourself but I think it’s a gorgeous piece worth a look.

    Good luck!

Sigh. I’m having the exact same struggle. I don’t want to do the traditional march and I don’t care for Canon in D. Right now, my top choice is Claire de Lune as popularized by the Ocean’s 11-13,000 movies. I also like the soundtrack to Sense and Sensibility. It has some pretty tracks that would work for this sort of thing. And Canon in F is pretty.

I started to make a list of songs that would be good, but then it got to #15 and realized that a) you may be wanting traditional songs, b) my list is too long…

i think i’ll just e-mail you the list lol.

I had a friend walk down the aisle to “Feather Theme” from Forrest Gump. It worked for her wedding b/c a few feathers were accents with the flowers.

    From Lindsey:

I’m going to go ahead and have to beg you not to do Canon in D. Overused, overused, overused. But, overused for a reason. Suggestion for the dance? Brickhouse (laugh all you want, but it DOES get people out on the dance floor) and September, by Earth, Wind, and Fire.

The prelude of the first Bach suite for cellos is also very pretty.

    From Amber:

There is this one Jesusy song that I always think would be good in a wedding. It’s the one that says “you and I are meant to worship. you and I are called to love. you and I are forgiven and free. when you and I embrace surrender ….”
    It’s something like that.
    Do you know that one?

Amber, I don’t know that song. Do you know what it’s called?
