commuting almost two hours to the medical center for three days in a row because my local clinic doesn’t have enough patients.

training to help out in other areas of the hospital like pre-op and radiation.

unplugging from the computer for a whole day except to google “diep surgery” and “t&a surgery” to fill out consent forms.

getting extremely stressed out by the work uncertainty and being really grumpy as a result.

frantically texting my mom asking for prayers because I don’t feel like I can even muster the energy to get through the bedtime routine, let alone face another day.

administering antibiotics to Liam for an ear infection.

giving myself a break from cooking in order to gain a bit more time and patience.

trying to get Meredith to sleep in her own bed at night – or at least fall asleep there (it’s been two nights in a row!).

walking to the park every night.

    reading a good book.

knitting a few rows each day.

signing up for a 5k so I’ll have some motivation to start running again.

    finally feeling like myself again.

    january kids

starting a monthly photo series of the kids to serve as title cards in this year’s Project Life using these templates from Paislee Press.

enjoying the extra time at home I’ve had this week due to Liam’s most recent illness (virus turned secondary bacterial sinus infection).

putting the last of the Christmas decorations away.

attempting to unsubscribe from the Madewell newsletter, because they send promotions every day and I’ve been unable to keep myself from buying these and these (but my unsubscribe attempts don’t work for some reason).

    drinking cafe mochas.

researching what to make with fresh lemons since my  neighbor gave me a bunch she cut from her tree (thinking about trying this).

planning Liam’s birthday party which is in just over a week and thinking: brunch with donuts, bright colors, pocket page scrapbook, easy kids’ activities like blocks and coloring.

anticipating my first half marathon in nine days even though my longest run has only been ten miles.

reading Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel and loving it.

    playing Trivia Crack.

Genius: okay, so Meredith still sleeps in bed with us at night. It’s always a struggle to actually get the lights off without screams and cries. The other night I was so tired that I really needed to sleep (aka every night but especially this one) but she NEEDED to change her baby doll’s diaper. We have this handheld light (not exactly a flashlight, more like a camping light) that is actually David’s but she had confiscated to play with. I let her turn it on and I told her to turn it off when she was done and I went to sleep. It totally worked; it gave her the transition she needed. This light is staying on the bedside table now.

Fail: I’ve been so focused on getting Liam clothes that fit him (since he is growing so fast) that I completely overlooked the fact that Meredith’s clothes are all for summer. She is still wearing shorts every day even though it’s getting cool. Need to tap into my hand-me-down network fast!

    Currently:

soaking up all the week in the life album inspiration I can find (like this and this and this)

editing photos to black & white

processing all I learned in this book,

starting this book for book club, and

deciding which book to send for postal book club

    finalizing Christmas wish lists

brainstorming gift ideas for my family (I want to finish shopping this month!)

enjoying the rainy weather and the coolness it brings

eating this enchilada soup using this homemade sauce

wondering what other simple beef recipes are out there that I haven’t tried (since that’s David’s favorite meat)

making a two-week meal plan that we can just repeat

running only about twice per week lately; hoping to increase that by a day at least

relieved that most of the people in my life seem to be healthy, finally (and Liam’s asthma is controlled)

Genius: Listening to my gut on Wednesday and taking Liam back to the doctor even though he had just been there on Monday. Turns out he has asthma and now we have much better treatment for it. I’m hoping he’ll be looking much better by next week.

Fail: Well the morning I documented last week felt like one big fail! But also, we are struggling with dinners for Meredith. Right now I am cooking mostly paleo, but Meredith doesn’t want to eat just meat and veggies. But if she doesn’t eat, she gets suuuper cranky. And I also don’t want to cook her something different every night. I don’t want that to be the norm. Any ideas?

    Currently:

    administering breathing treatments.

    elbow-deep in diaper rash cream.

speed-reading this book for book club.

vacillating about whether or not to do week in the life.

borrowing a Spider-Man costume for Meredith.

missing my maintenance runs this week.

    craving a real cold front.

eating this pork tenderloin and these mashed potatoes.

thinking about a short bobbed haircut like this.

loving that I can convince Meredith to “do my hair” for fun.

praying for complete health for my family.

gearing up for an overbooked weekend.

    wishing you a happy Friday!
