  • Guess the Movie

Ready for some more mindless fun? Below I have posted quotes (retrieved from imdb.com) from ten of my favorite movies. Without looking any of them up, can you guess which movies they are from?

    1. “I have two guns; one for each of you.”

    2. “–He fights for something that I never had. And I took it from him, when I betrayed him. I saw it in his face on the battlefield and it’s tearing me apart.
–All men betray. All lose heart.
–I don’t want to lose heart! I want to believe as he does.”

    3. “The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.”

    4. “You need to find yourself a girl, mate. Or perhaps the reason you practice three hours a day is that you already found one, and are otherwise incapable of wooing said strumpet. You’re not a eunuch are you?”

    5. “–Each time I tell myself it’s the last time, but then I get a whiff of her hot chocolate, or…
–…Seashells. Chocolate seashells, so small, so plain, so innocent. I thought, oh, just one little taste, it can’t do any harm. But it turned out they were filled with rich, sinful…
–…And it melts, God forgive me, it melts ever so slowly on your tongue, and tortures you with pleasure.”

    6. “I’ve already wasted my whole life. I want to tell you with my last breath that I have always loved you. I would rather be a ghost, drifting by your side as a condemned soul, than enter heaven without you. Because of your love, I will never be a lonely spirit.”

    7. “Flor! Look at this child! You could make a fortune doing surrogate pregnancy!”

    8. “Oh, you’re right. And when you’re right, you’re right. And you – you’re always right!”

    9. “I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel His pleasure.”

    10. “I used to be able to name every nut that there was. And it used to drive my mother crazy, because she used to say, “Harlan Pepper, if you don’t stop naming nuts,” and the joke was that we lived in Pine Nut, and I think that’s what put it in my mind at that point. So she would hear me in the other room, and she’d just start yelling. I’d say, “Peanut. Hazelnut. Cashew nut. Macadamia nut.” That was the one that would send her into going crazy. She’d say, “Would you stop naming nuts!” And Hubert used to be able to make the sound, he couldn’t talk, but he’d go “rrrawr rrawr” and that sounded like Macadamia nut. Pine nut, which is a nut, but it’s also the name of a town. Pistachio nut. Red pistachio nut. Natural, all natural white pistachio nut.”

  • De-stressing

So I passed my test! With a very high score, actually, and I have no idea how I managed to do that because there were so many questions I was unsure of. Anyway, remember how I said that the coming weeks will probably be stressful? Well scratch that. I defy stress! I’m tired of it. Finals aren’t for a couple of weeks and there’s really nothing for me to worry about until then. And let’s be honest, I’m not really worried about finals either. Nothing can keep me from graduating, and I already have a job.

Last night I set the tone by renting myself a movie, something I hardly ever do anymore. Since David couldn’t be with me I made sure it was one he would never want to see – Stardust (he doesn’t do fantasy). I loved it. Then I finished off the evening with some ice cream and “Dancing With the Stars.” A good night’s sleep later, and I am unwound. Ahhh.

I apologize in advance if you get tired of hearing about how great it is that I’m graduating. I’ve been in college now for eight years, and I’m just really excited.

  • The Villian

Darth Vader: The Tragic Man Behind The Mask

Yesterday I heard this segment on the radio, and an enormous yearning to have a Star Wars marathon came over me. I wish I had time for stuff like that.

  • atonement, the movie

I recently told you a little about the book we read for our book club, Atonement. Since it is Now a Major Motion Picture! we decided to go see it as a group. It took us a really long time to figure out when all five of us could make it together, but we finally settled on last night at seven.

Well, Leah ended up not being able to come. Amanda was late because she had to pick up Cleo from the groomers. Courtney, Sara, and I walked in right before the actual movie began because with rain and traffic it took us quite awhile to get there. So a bit of a rough start, but I was really looking forward to the movie and was set on enjoying it.

I was sitting next to Sara, and I noticed that she was breathing a little noisily but I figured it was just her congestion because she’s been sick. But then it became louder, so I glanced over and saw that she was completely asleep and snoring. Not too long after that Courtney got sick to her stomach and left to spend a good while in the bathroom. I noticed that Amanda was focused more on her phone than the movie. I think I’m the only one who enjoyed the movie in its entirety, although to be fair Courtney was really into the movie and couldn’t help that she got sick.

As for the movie itself, I liked it even though I thought it was a much better book. The music was especially cool. The girl who played Briony was really creepy looking. And that’s about the extent of my review. Apparently it won the Golden Globe for best motion picture, drama. Out of the other nominees, I have only seen No Country For Old Men, which I think I liked better than Atonement. But anyway, there you have it.

  • I’m OK, You’re OK!

I apologize for my last post, which I admit was utterly depressing. I really have been going through something lately, and I think I can honestly say that last week was one of the worst weeks of my life. That post basically summarized how I felt up to that point.

But! I have wonderful people in my life who have been there for me, and I have received many words of encouragement and much support. I do believe that I am loved by a mighty God through whom all things are possible. I now have complete hope and confidence in my situation, and although it remains difficult, I know I can make it through to the other side. Not only that, but I know that the other side holds a better life for me and those involved in this ordeal.

So, let me talk about some random, completely unrelated things to distract me and to make this a happier place to be. First of all, I went to see the movie The Jane Austen Book Club with my roommates, and I loved it. I’ve only read two of Jane Austen’s books, and now I’d really like to read the rest. A long time ago my grandmother gave me the complete set, so I have them all. But that’s beside the point; the movie was really cute and funny, so if you like that kind of thing you should see it.

Secondly, I have now witnessed a C-section and a vaginal birth. Both were fascinating, but I have to say that when I have kids I really don’t want a C-section if I can help it. Also regarding school, I have the rest of this week off, which is quite nice, but then next week I have a test in both classes so I need to hit the books.

On Saturday I ran the Race For The Cure. I think I did pretty well, considering the pack of people I was hindered by. Not that I was trying to win any awards or anything, I was just hoping to have a decent personal time. Also on Saturday I went to see the David Crowder Band in concert. It was pretty good, but not one of the best concerts I’ve seen. The place was pretty big, and we weren’t very close. Also, I was extremely exhausted and I think I actually dozed off during one of the songs. Oops. However, the opening band, The Myriad, was really good, and the whole experience was worth it just to see the people around us dancing and getting into the music. Sometimes Christian rock concerts are just hilarious.

In conclusion, I hope everyone has a great week. I know mine will be better than the last. To quote Mandy Moore, “I’m looking forward to looking back on these days.”
