friday things: odds & ends

July 30, 2010

I started watching Glee from the beginning tonight. My brother had told me that there was zero chance that I wouldn’t like it, and he was right. In fact, I teared up in the first episode because of how happy it made me. My husband watched it with me and commented on all the stereotypes and how it’s basically just a cheesy high school movie. I looked him in the eye and said, “I like that.”

My in-laws have been keeping Oliver for us since before David’s surgery, but since they’re going on vacation in the morning we got him back tonight. Even though we’re a little nervous about how it’ll work out with the big guy around, I have to say that I’ve missed him.

It wasn’t two seconds after I sat down that his whole body was in my lap!

Here’s a little TMI for you: today was day one of my feminine cycle. I can honestly say that I’ve never looked forward to it so much, because after almost 20 months of trying & waiting for one reason or another we are finally proceeding with fertility treatment: ovulation induction with intrauterine insemination. I debated on whether or not to share this, but I figured I already went through one miscarriage with you and it turned out okay. So today, despite dealing with my usual horrendous cramps and accompanying nausea, I was actually excited. I got a baseline ultrasound and a prescription for Clomid, which I start on Sunday. For anyone who has taken it before, what can I expect?

On my way home from the doctor’s office I dug around in my wallet and discovered a long-forgotten gift card to Smoothie King with $7 left on it! Total score. It’s the little things. Then I stopped by a store I had a Groupon for called One Green Street and picked up a few new organic products.

One of my goals is to transition to all-natural personal care products, so I’m trying out some different kinds to see what I like best. I’ll be sure to let you know how I like these.

Today was a success! What about you?

    From Laura:

Your day sounds a lot more productive than mine. I am so happy that you’ve started Glee! It’s one of my favorite shows – those kids are such talented singers! And it is super cheesy, but I think it just adds to the greatness! I am also excited about you beginning fertility treatment. I’ll be praying for you through this!

    From Nora:

Glee! It may be a cheesy high school show but it’s so on point and a lot of the stereotypes are true and exist, so why not enjoy it!? I love the music and dancing. Glad it made you smile.

Ooo, organic products. I love them! The Whole Foods beauty/health section is like kryptonite to my wallet. Let us know what you think of these products in case I can find them here :)

Also, Oliver looks so sweet! I’m sure he’s glad to be home!

    From Nicole:

There’s nothing like re-discovering a gift card with money still on it. :) Have a great weekend!

    From Erin:

What dose of Clomid are you taking? When I was on the 50mg, I really didn’t have any side effects, but I definitely felt it when I went up to 100mg. Hot flashes, insomnia, mood swings. It’s definitely different for everyone, though, and some people never have any side effects.

Glee is basically the best show ever. Is it super cheesy? Yup. And I love it!

    From kapachino:

I’m taking 100 mg. Is it weird that they put me on that the first time? I have no idea. How long did your side effects last? Hopefully I don’t get any, but I just want to be prepared!

    From Erin:

Not weird at all. I did 50mg while I was still at my regular OB just as a trial. Once I was at the RE, they put me on 100mg.

Usually, the side effects started after the second day of pills, and they only lasted about 3 or 4 days. Really not bad.

    From Tabaitha:

Absolutely love Glee and worth downloading the soundtracks.

    From Kyla Roma:

Glee is the best kinda cheesy :)
And good luck with the Clomid! I was going to direct you to Erin, but she beat me to it :)

    From Elizabeth Baker:

I know everyone reacts differently to Clomid, but for me it wasn’t bad. I got pregnant on my second round, paired with Metaformin. I will tell you, first trimester pregnancy symptoms are much worse! Good luck and let me know if you want to talk.

    From Jessica:

Oh definitely keep me posted on the green products, I’m always interested to hear what’s out there and what people like. Also, your pup is so cute!!

    From Emily Jane:

YAY for starting Glee!! You are going to LOVE it :)

  12. 12

    From Elizabeth:

I’m wishing you all the luck in the world with this cycle, and I’m glad your buddy is home with you again!

    From Liz:

OK – so I am a little late to the comment party here.
    Glee!!! ::squee::
I love it – its my favorite and my husband makes fun of me every time I watch it, but I don’t care. Its fantastically cheesy and it makes me wish life was a musical where we all just bust out in song during random conversations.

Good luck with your cycle this month! I did Clomid 100mg, and then 150 I think? (its been so long I can hardly remember). I didn’t have many side effects mostly just the hot flashes, but they seemed to go away pretty quick.
